Event Outline
2026 sees the return of the Summer Relays hosted by the Gosforth Harriers & Athletics Club. The event comprises a relay race for adult running club members and an open junior race for local children. Organised and managed by Gosforth Harriers’ members and their families, the relay race itself will be held under licence from England Athletics who will also be officiating.
The adult relay race consists of 3 legs of 2.2 miles over a single lap of an undulating, fast and mainly tarmac course in the parkland of Newcastle Great Park. Teams consist of 3 runners in the following categories:
- Senior Ladies (must be 16 or over on day of the event)
- Senior Mens (must be 16 or over on day of the event)
- Veteran Ladies (age 35+)
- Veteran Mens (age 40+)
The junior races are out and back, individual events, which will be held before the adult relay race.
Events Times
The event will take place on the morning of Sunday 2nd August 2026. Set up on the site will commence at 8:30am. The junior and adult start times are:
- U10s & U12s Boys/Girls [1 mile] – 9:45am
- U14s & U16s Boys/Girls [1.25 miles] – 10:15am
- Adult Relays – 11:00am
Venue
The event will take place at Newcastle’s Great Park. Parking will be available at the Town Centre car park on Brunton Drive. Registration and toilets are located within the Great Park Community Centre on Roseden Way.
