Medal Monday: A weekend of achievements at Jarrow 10K & York Marathon

What a weekend it was for Gosforth Harriers, with our Green and Whites producing a fantastic set of performances across two very different events. From lightning-fast personal bests at the Jarrow 10km to incredible determination on the streets of York Marathon, our members once again demonstrated the talent, commitment and community spirit that makes our club so special.

Fast Times at Jarrow 10km

The Jarrow 10km is renowned for being one of the region’s quickest courses, and our senior runners made the most of the fast, flat route with a string of outstanding performances.

Leading the way was Eimy, who delivered a superb run to clock 41:07, earning a new personal best and securing 2nd place in the V40 Female category. A well-deserved podium finish and another fantastic result in what has been an excellent season.

Chris was also in tremendous form, crossing the line in 39:24, narrowly missing a personal best by just four seconds. Despite falling agonisingly short of that PB, it remains a hugely impressive performance and a clear indication that another breakthrough is just around the corner.

There were more strong performances throughout the Gosforth Harriers contingent. Jonathon completed the course in 41:43, while Jack enjoyed a memorable day by setting a new personal best of 41:57.

One of the standout performances came from James, whose finishing time of 42:15 represented an incredible improvement of almost four minutes on his previous best. Huge progress and a reward for the hard work put in on training nights and race days alike.

Meanwhile, Kevin Thomas rolled back the years with a superb run of 48:44, recording his fastest 10km time in eight years. A brilliant achievement and proof that persistence and consistency continue to pay dividends.

Junior Success Continues

The future remains bright for Gosforth Harriers, with another excellent performance coming from our junior section.

Henry showed impressive speed and racing instincts in the junior race, finishing in an outstanding 6th place with a time of 4:01. A fantastic result against strong competition and another example of the talent developing within the club’s junior ranks.

Marathon Determination in York

While the action unfolded in Jarrow, another inspiring Gosforth Harriers story was being written in York.

Chris took on the challenge of the York Marathon alongside her daughter, Toni, in what proved to be a test of resilience, determination and teamwork. When Toni suffered a calf injury during the race, the pair dug deep and tackled the demanding miles together, supporting one another all the way to the finish.

Marathons are never easy, but overcoming adversity during 26.2 miles requires a special kind of grit. Their ability to push through the challenge together embodied everything that distance running is about: perseverance, encouragement and refusing to give up when things get tough.

It was a phenomenal effort from both runners and a wonderful example of the strength that comes from running as a team.

Proud of Every Performance

Whether it was standing on a podium, setting a personal best, achieving a season’s best, running the quickest time in years, or battling through the physical and mental challenges of a marathon, every Gosforth Harrier who raced this weekend has plenty to be proud of.

Congratulations to everyone who pulled on the Green and White vest and represented the club so brilliantly. Your performances continue to inspire fellow members and showcase the strength of our running community.

We look forward to seeing what next weekend brings.

Well done, Harriers! 💚🤍
